….not those who will become overpaid PAs to Ranking Senators
By Maazi Obinna Akuwudike
For some people, the argument is that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume have been to the Senate before.
The people of South Senatorial District don’t seem to think so about Senator James Manager neither does the people of Enugu-West think Ike Ekweremadu has gone too long. Even the people of Benue South Senatorial District are still ready to send back Senator David Mark despite the fact he has been in the Senate since 2007. We are not even talking about Senator Ahmad Lawan of Yobe North or Ali Ndume or even John Owan all who have been in the Senate since 2003 or 2007 till date and yet again in 2023, their people will still send them back.
Enwere ihe those people huga that some of us are failing to see. That thing is called “Ranking”.
Now some people will tell you it doesn’t matter. Enyi, Ranking matters very much else there wouldn’t have been any word like that in the first place.
In every profession, enwere rank. A SAN gets better treatment in the court room than charge-and-bail so also does a Chief Surgeon get more recognition than onye Housemanship.
The same applies in the Senate.
If you send person wey no sabi ground, he or she go be JJC for the next four or even eight years, without attracting pin while people like James Manager and David Mark will be pushing their people into Federal jobs and attracting projects left and right for their people. Go and check, these Senators have more people from their zones in Federal service than any other zones.
A good Arsenal coach cannot send his second best against Chelsea FC. If it were a team like Adamawa United, you can send your third team but when you get into the A League, you must come with your A Game with an A Player. Ya wuru House of Assembly, we for send many of those jostling for the Okigwe Senate seat there, to learn legislative ropes from the grassroots so that National Politics doesn’t bamboozle and swallow them.
Even with his experience, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu didn’t find his first term easy. He was only getting his footing at the second term before death unfortunately struck.
Are we going to send somebody even less experienced than Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, to replace him when we have somebody over qualified to help set us back on track, before we can send nde Teaching practice back to the Senate again?
Those who told you that Senate has no term limits know that the older you are there, the more you can attract. Even in the very civilized United States, Patrick Joseph Leahy from Vermont has stayed in the American Senate uninterrupted for 45years and is still there till date.
When we talk about those who have that capacity to deliver, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has track records in and out of the Senate speaking on his behalf.
I ask a simple question, who is that person you believe can person better? Give us their scorecards let’s compare and contrast.
We need Senators that will interact one on one with Mr President not those who will become overpaid PAs to ranking Senators and State Govenrors.
I’m a man driven by facts not sentiments. Sentiments lands people in trouble, facts gets you out of trouble. And the fact remains that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume is the best Okigwe Zone can send to Abuja now to put Okigwe, Imo State and the Entire SouthEast back on the national grip.
Argue with facts…
