UZODINMA’S GOVERNMENT OF NO AGENDA: A GOVERNMENT OF SOME PEOPLE, FOR SOME PEOPLE AND BY SOME PEOPLE
…AS APGA CALLS OUT IMO GOVERNMENT, SAYS THERE IS NO DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY AT THE MOMENT
The leadership of Imo APGA calls on Senator Hope Uzodinma to sit up for better governance. It is unfortunate the present Imo government has not lived up to expectations. Though as an unprepared government, we expected Senator Uzodinma to hit the ground running by doing well to put smile on Imolites who are not happy for being forced to a government they never voted. We expected Senator Uzodinma to show his competence to Imolites. We expected Senator Uzodinma to unfold the good things he has on table for the growth and development of Imo State. But unfortunately, the reverse has been the case. It can be recalled that the present Imo government was a surprise to well-meaning Imolites as it is a mockery to the judiciary.
With the prophesy of Fr. Mbaka, some people stopped feeling bad as everyone watches what Senator Uzodinma has for Ndi Imo. But as it stands at the moment, we yet to know if the prophesy really came from the Holy Spirit or just a political gimmick.
Since commencement of the present Imo government, it has been from one ugly issue to another as time goes, without the government being able to show any visible thing at hand. As the government complains of no fund to pay Imo workers and pensioners, we are surprise to see hundreds of political appointees. Instead of the appointees to do their best to help the Governor deliver good governance to Imolites, they are pursuing shadows left and right. Most of them leave their positions and prefer to fight opposition. And we ask: When has criticism turned crime in Imo politics? Instead of doing well to make things work again in the decayed state, the appointees only give the Governor reports on who is against him or not. Everyone is speaking…no one is speaking. What Imolites expected are no more what they get! There are more reactive than proactive. Instead of the government to work hard to shut critics up, there is much of witch hunting of opposition and unnecessary media war. Unfortunately, majority of the appointees are more of praise singers and only after what they can get (selfish interest). The government is not after if the appointees are working for the betterment of the masses or not.
To show how vindictive and insensitive the present government is, we start from nonpayment of salaries to honourable members of the state house of assembly. This has not happened in the history of Imo State. Is a Governor suppose to owe Lawmakers who have the right to impeach him at any given opportunity? Well, that is what we get when we have Boys’ Scout and Girls’ Brigade as Imo House of Assembly Members. Nonpayment of workers and pensioners is the worst treatment the government has given to Ndi Imo. Yet, there are hundreds of senior/junior political appointees who are being paid monthly for doing less jobs or nothing.
Sacking of too many government workers when there is lack of employment in the society, is man inhumanity to man. Should we talk of the infrastructural decay in Imo? The present government prefers to pay millions of naira to Channels television, AIT and other media organisations for promotion, than to use the money to either pay workers or build visible projects. It is very unfortunate that a state created since 1976, has no good road network or basic amenities.
As a matter of fact, the security level in Imo at the moment is zero. If you are in Imo at the moment, you are on your own. No adequate security to guard the people from criminals and other enemies. A few security men out there are busy at the checking points, collecting money from motorists and very bold and confident making change for taxi and bus drivers. What a society where citizens complain of hardship and the government cares less to feel the pain of the masses. No good road, no food, no electricity, no water, security, no job creation for the youths, no good hospital. Yet, the government is happy.
We therefore remind Senator Uzodinma that time is ticking and waits for nobody. Time shall come when Imolites will go on streets for protest if his government does not sit up. We shall not remain quiet as Imo citizens suffer! Where are the 27 local government allocations? Where are Imo monthly allocations? We want to see positive infrastructural change in Imo. We want to see visible projects and not unnecessary from the present Imo government. Therefore, we call upon Imolites to take it in good faith as we pray for long life and good health for a better 2023/2024 outing. May the good Lord deliver Ndi Imo from the hands of political wolves.
