In an apparent defiance and not-too surprising disdain for judicial processes and directives, the Senator Hope Uzodimma administration in Imo State, overruled Justice Umar Mohammed’s directive putting a hold to activities of the several PDP instituted vendetta-pursuing probe panels in Imo State, as two of the panels submitted their reports to the panel yesterday.
While nothing has been reported of the Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie’s panel on the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, which was established by the APC administration of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the Imo State government’s well-funded but poorly trained propaganda machinery has mischievously given vents to the reports by the Eze Duruiheoma LGA administration panel, which among other things, made the very implausible claim that about 141 billion Naira, which according to them, represents the total sum for allocations received by the LGAs during Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s eight years tenure.
Duruiheoma, an immediate past Chairman of the National Population Commission and a past State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Imo State may be forgiven or even applauded for delivering on a job that was, from the onset, aimed at demonizing the All Progressives Congress, but it is left to be seen what would be said of the present regime of Senator Hope Uzodimma, which pretends to be an APC administration.
Uzodimma’s history in the Nigerian political playroom is well-known and his gate-crashing and controversy-ridden entrance to the APC is well-documented, hence, it will not be a total surprise that he is leading the most vehement onslaught against the Party in the only State it has control over in the entire Southeast, through a conscious but futile promotion of outright falsehood and scurrilous tales against the Party he claims to be one of its promoters.
Fortunately, like every lie, Uzodimma’s spurrious claims of governance chaos and looting against the APC administration of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha will fizzle away in the face of truth. For instance, on thehe issue for which this outing was undertaken, it is only a mischief maniac and a shameless merchant of mendacity who would deny that the LGA administration in Imo State came alive for the first time under the administration of Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
How would any discerning reader or listener take the claim that LGA allocations could not be accounted for, when the only thing the person needs to do is take a tour across the 27 LGAs of the State for a first-hand verification of projects worth multiple billions of Naira in value. Some of these legacy and undeniable projects include;
- The 27 General Hospitals, sited, one each, in every LGA of the State.
- Renovation and Modernization of local and major markets across most LGAs in the State.
- The construction of 305 new classroom blocks across every ward in the State.
- Renovation of Primary and Secondary schools across the communities in the State.
- Construction of 15 kilometers of roads in each of the 27 LGAs in the State.
- Building of chapels in the 27 LGA headquarters of the State.
- Building and equipping of 27 ICT centers, one each, in the 27 LGAs of th State.
- Employment of over 50,000 workers in the Imo State Local Government system.
- Renovation of existing structures and construction of new structures in each of the 27 LGAs headquarters in the State.
- Rural electrification jobs and remedial road works across the 645 autonomous communities in the State. And several other legacy projects of the Okorocha administration.
In its seven months at the helm as Imo State governor, records are being compiled on the huge allocations accruing to the LGAs and how these monies seem to be growing wings and flying into outer spaces, without any tangible project to show for them. Is Hope Uzodimma furious that Okorocha’s indelible landmarks of infrastructural revolution across the 27 LGAs are too many, too big, that his seeming unreadiness to match these achievements would be too glaring to the people? Certainly, Okorocha has left his successors in Imo with no other option but to work for the people, because he raised the standard of governance, to heights unseen in the history of governance in the State. If Okorocha achieved nothing else, he was able to open the eyes of the people to their rights and as well demystified political office-holding, hence, it is a risk not to perform as governor in the State, because the people won’t take excuses for such failures.
Uzodimma would certainly come up with the watery defence that his attacks on Okorocha is in determination to entrench probity in governance, and I would be quick to ask him; did the local government system in Imo State start with Okorocha? If you were not after some political pounds of flesh, why are you not probing others before Okorocha? Why are you in a haste to conclude these probes, even while you tell the courts that you had suspended the probes and when you also got a directive from the courts not to continue with the probes till the matter is determined? Why is your administration not telling the world about the enormous assets you inherited as a result of Okorocha’s visionary eight year rule in Imo, but you are quick to advertise falsehoods of imaginary corruption?
Governor Uzodimma should stop hiding behind PDP’s probe panels to witch-hunt Okorocha on behalf of his sponsors, but be bold enough to come out clean and let the world know his agenda against the APC in the Southeast. Do I need to remind him that shadow fighting is a quality of cowardly and dishonest persons?
I shall, in a subsequent outing advance more on Okorocha’s achievements in the LGA system and why Hope Uzodimma would be satisfied, if the only thing his controversy-ridden administration achieves is to continuing funding lies against Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
