..vows to lead protest, label Okebaram betrayer
Hon Godspower Apollos branch chairman Taxi/Busimo of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State Council, has berated Gov Hope Uzodinma over the alleged sack of over twenty five thousand members of the union in Imo.
Hon Apollos said the action smacks of insensitivity and man’s inhumanity to man adding that he is prepared to lead a protest against the governor’s action, even as he described state chairman of the union, comrade Izuchukwu Okebaram as a betrayer.
The transport boss who recently emerged the Owerri Municipal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and is currently Chairman of Chairmen of the party in Owerri Zone, while speaking exclusively to Announcer Express at the weekend, noted that this is the first time in the history of the union, that a sitting governor has politicized NURTW’s constitutional duties.
According to him Gov Uzodinma by ordering the sack of NURTW members who his adminstration branded opposition political parties members clearly demonstrated that he lacks the sagacity and temperament to occupy a high and sensitive office as that of a governor of a state.
Hon Apollos noted that the governor’s failure to adhere to due process, respect rule of law, differentiate governance from politics to as well as understand that as governor he is should be the father and protector of all Imo citizens irrespective of party affiliation or political beliefs casts big question mark on his leadership and democratic credentials.
He stressed that Gov Uzodinma is gradually proving right his critics who insist that he is worse than every other governor who has ruled the state, pointing out that more than any other thing his open interference in NURTW activities more than confirms that allegation.
He also alleged that the governor can’t be trusted as a leader having reneged on his promise never to interfere in union activities, which he personally made to the union sometime in January this year, during a solidarity rally organized for him at the Government House Owerri.
The PDP chieftain reminded the governor that no condition is permanent and that power is transient, stressing that the seeds he’s planting today as governor are exactly the same seeds he will harvest when the time comes.
He lampooned the state chairman of the union and his executive for allegedly betraying teeming members of the body, noting that all they have kept telling the sacked and hungry members since the problem began remains that the governor will soon resolve the problem.
He queried whether the governor is waiting for all of them to die or be pushed into untoward activities before he will restore them to the job which the Nigerian Constitution unambiguously handed down to them.
According to him from the picture on the ground Comrade Izuchukwu Okebaram and his team seem to have compromised, therefore have lost the passion and energy to continue fighting for the reversal of the injustice meted on the union.
Against this backdrop, Hon Apollos said he and other disenchanted leaders of the union have taken it upon themselves to rally aggrieved thousands of union members, adding that soon they will stage what he called mother of all protests in the state.
He made it clear that they can no longer keep quite in the face of alleged gross injustice, intimidation, suppression and illegality being visited on the union by the prosperity government which accused of not being due process and rule of law compliant, even as he urged members of union to remain calm and refrain from indulging in anti social conducts.
