With President Muhammadu Buhari recognising Victor Giadom, as National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, APC, a bigger political battle will soon erupt in the Imo state chapter of the ruling party.
President Buhari’s support for Giadom, may have brought to an end the recent raging crisis within the party which started after Comrade Adams Oshiomole was suspended by the Appeal Court.
Buhari’s support, came as a big shock to Oshiomhole loyalists such as Gov Hope Uzodinma.
President Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, stating in a statement on Wednesday said “has determined that the law is on the side of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman”.
The support for Giadom by Mr President, has very strong implications in Imo APC, where the Rochas Okorocha backed Daniel Nwafor faction insists they are the authentic state executives of the party, while a caretaker committee led by Marcellinus Nlemigbo, and backed by Gov Hope Uzodinma thinks otherwise.
Daniel Nwafor faction of the party in the state, is loyal to former Governor Senator Owelle Rochas Okorocha, whereas the Nlemigbo caretaker committee has the backing of Governor Hope Uzodinma.
Daniel Nwafor has been in court challenging the Nlemigbo caretaker committee.
Governor Hope Uzodinma is a known loyalist of the suspended Oshiomhole, whereas the Nwafor group are in support of Victor Giadom.
Before President Buhari’s open support for him, Giadom had already written to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, calling for the cancellation the APC Edo State governorship primary which is being headed by Governor Hope Uzodinma.
The Daniel Nwafor faction from all indications, may have the upper hand over Nlemigbo under Giadom’s leadership of the party.
Already, there is confusion over which faction will conduct the Okigwe Senate primaries and with President Buhari’s support for Giadom, it seems Rochas Okorocha’s Daniel Nwafor faction may decide the next Senator of Okigwe Zone, a situation that will not go down well with Gov Hope Uzodinma.
